Five Dead in Traffic Accident Outside Battambang

Battambang: Five people have been killed instantly and one other has been seriously injured after Thursday morning’s accident on National Road 5 in Battambang’s Moung Russey District. Eyewitnesses say they saw a large truck with a Kampong Chhnang license plate being driven at high speed. Moments later it collided with a smaller truck transporting orange farm workers. The driver of that truck and four of his passengers were killed. A male passenger has been admitted to the Moung Russey District Referral Hospital and is listed as being in a serious condition. The driver of the other truck fled the scene.

After an initial scene investigation by authorities, the bodies of the victims were handed over to their relatives to prepare for traditional funerals. The two damaged vehicles have been towed to the local police station. The hunt for the driver continues.
